The media enjoys the mud slinging and name calling to try and do something about the ads. Fear tactics and shit talking is what drives ratings. The election is a popularity contest but the people take that to seriously. They read into those ads whole heartedly instead of actually finding out about the people they are voting for.

Which is how the WI recall ended like it did. Thus giving the green light to begin a mud avalanche of attack ads.
