Just curious, why is "p********" always censored? We can say "resident," but not after a "p". This just seems really weird to me on a site that promotes free speech as much as possible.

p******** is blocked because the US government has:
(i) zero sense of humour and
(ii) an unsurprisingly insular arrogance.
Therefore anybody using the word p******** just must be talking about their fucking p********, and anybody saying anything in jest or in frustration will be interpreted as being serious.
So unfortunately sites like motherless find it easier to block the word than put up with the shitstorm should comments get taken completely (and I'd argue intentionally) out of context.
Fortunately "insincere dickwad" isn't censored, so we've got a good alternative phrase for the foreseeable future.

Your entire post is wrong. This is the only website I have ever been to, where the word pres-ident is censored. It makes no sense either, because it doesn't take into account that it doesn't A) inhibit people using euphemisms to get around it or B) making threats against the POTUS, regardless.
Since we all know that the word is censored, I could still just as easily say "I want to assassinate the p********" and everyone on here will know what I mean.

So if someone performs a web search for the p word then will your post be returned in the results or not?
The answer is no. It's not to stop people already viewing from reading the post, it's to prevent attraction to the post because of that word.

Also, it appears that the 'p word' only happens to be censored on this website (that I know of. Obviously, there is some other website out there censoring 'old�sident' as well.), why is this the case?

^ Looks like the first of those two (copy-pasted from above) isn't actually an e or something. Maybe it's like from the Russian character set, so the filter doesn't catch it.
It's probably filtered so Echelon or whatever the newest thing is doesn't catch it. And so people don't go saying "fucking nigger p******** im gonna kill obama" and get the FBI and Secret Service and shit all up in the staff's grille.

Also, I'm sure that the staff has already been in communication with the FBI... I wouldn't be surprised if they've worked out some friendly terms.
