The production cost compared to the internal combustion engine counterpart is collossal. At the moment the materials are more expensive and harder to source. Why did you think the cars are so expensive? And that extra cost reflects impact.
They are a future technology, they will be worthwhile one day. People can buy them now and kid themseves they're helping the environment but they're not. Not yet.
It's going to be a couple of decades or more before the improvement in car technology and greater use of renewable energy for the electricity grid makes them a real benefit.
