this is a 100% serious thread.
as a canadian i dont get this opposition to Obamacare. i hear how it's gonna cost alot, and i see the republicans beating their chest about it.
to me it seems like people dont wanna pay more "taxes" and that's more then fair.
however when that tax goes towards allowing poor people to see a doctor, is that not a good thing??
i mean yeah the U.S would be paying out the ass for it, but shit it's not like they're a poor country. and in the end, everyone gets to see a doctor when they need it. is that so bad? seriously, keep the rethoric and hate down, this is a serious question.

Bottom line is that for many years the US people have been asking for more affordable health care. Republicans have never made an effort to provide such, have never put anything on the table to help folks. When Obama proposed something, the Republicans opposed it, as they do virtually anything that Democrats attempt. Republican strategy is focused not on what is good for the country but rather on what is bad for Democrats. Both Republicans and Democrats are a bunch of scumbags, but at least the Democrats have ideas that they try. All Republicans seem able to do is to "oppose". Now, if they REALLY wanted to get rid of "Obamacare" they should come up with something better, and put it on the table to replace the current plan. Of course, they cannot do that, because that would lead to a success during the Obama Administration.
what i don't get is why people in the US think that healthcare like the NHS is a bad idea; sure there are raised taxes, but you'd only spend that money on health insurance in the US anyway? The only difference is that everyone gets treated in the socialized system and not scammed by their insurers.
this is the OP... the biggest red flag to me is the people who make good money, and can afford to pay more taxes, oppose it with this whole "i worked hard for my money" excuse, as if poor people dont work hard for the shitty paycheque they get?
i also hear alot of "it's my money, i can do with it as i please" which is true. but it doesnt (and shouldn't) excuse you from the social judgement you will be subjected to when you go buy your dog a diamon encrusted collar. or some stupid shit like that, while people in your city are literally DYING, to see a doctor.
so yeah, i'm not crazy right? that's what it comes down to? people who can afford healthcare, not wanting to pay more so that people who can't afford healthcare, can have access to free medical?
again, i'm canadian so we get socialized medicine here, and trust me when i say this. nobody, NOT ONE single person i know would give up their healthcard. not never. we all bitch about the high tax rate, but the moment any of us needs to spend a day at the ER we're glad its there.
I shouldn't have to pay more because you're poor. It's not my problem or fault. I'm not rich, lower middle class but your problems are not my problems. This is america and everyone has a chance to succeed. If you work at fucking mcdonalds and bitch about people with real jobs all day that's your CHOICE! Sorry, I'm ranting now.
let me guess, you're a white, middle class male. yeah you get your chance to suceed in america, not many others do. can you honestly say that a middle aged black woman would get the same job chances as you??
you're a great example as to what's wrong with the world today. selfish, and entitled. you prove with your words that you've never faced poverty, but someday you might, or your kids, or their kids, and then who's gonna help you. i bet the people at mcdonalds work alot harder then you and get paid alot less, most people dont choose to be poor you idiot. thats the problem with the country, there isnt enough money to go around, while people hoarde their billions in a bank offshore.
i am no longer poor, but i was, so it is my duty as a human being to help those still struggling. not everyone who is poor is lazy, just like not everyone who's rich is smart. if you dont want to be part of the human race, get the fuck off the planet you shit stain.
and your idea of an america where hard work = success is a croc of shit. even in a utopia someone needs to scrub the toilets. if the person scrubs hard and does a good job, will you pay him over $100,000 a year for it??
get your head out of your ass. you can do whatever you want with your money, even hoarde it or use it on stupid shit while people die, and yeah it's a free country, go ahead and do that. but you are not free of the social judgement you receive for being a total bag of dicks.
You're not a nation born of a tax rebellion where opposition to the state is practically built into the foundational documents. Those who oppose state action spend billions to reinforce that attitude, from which they profit greatly.
The problem with socialized health care in America is it won't be allowed to work for long. It won't even be in effect for one minute before someone manages to change the wording to get themselves more and fuck it up for everyone else. I also don't believe the American government is competent to run the system, and keep it funded correctly. There will always be someone grabbing more than they can carry, and running for the exits.
