@tiedye123 Thanks for the tips! I'll get another batch of pupas and hopefully I'll have some homegrown packing me tight

@Squirmlet Usually I have used cured meats or cooked meats. They keep their moisture more but in summer nothing beats raw meat! Moist helps but once the eggs are laid the action of the maggots , even small ones, releases fluid into the meat.

@tiedye123 hmm well that's some good info. It gets pretty cold here so I was actually worried about keeping them warm. I've been putting pupas in with meat that hasn't rotted yet, hoping that when they hatch into flies the meat will be rotten enough. It seems that the meat dries out and the flies have no desire to lay eggs. I haven't had them in much light as I keep them hidden in the closet. I'll change things up and see how it goes. Should I use raw meat? Should the meat be kept mois

@Squirmlet I just kept them with the meat till they laid eggs. Never had any problems but they do need fresh air and light. A closed large breathable container is best. I keep them in an outbuilding as I don't want them accidentally getting out at home. May be try a little cooler place than indoors? Winter is difficult though but let the meat rot a little. Smells a bit though!

@tiedye123 I've tried home growing indoors and can never get them to lay eggs on meat. If you have any success could you show your farm?

@Olddognewtricks we both have the same problem. I ma trying to grow maggots indoors as the flies emerge from the hatchings of previous maggots. Like the idea my flesh helped them grow, pupate and emerge as flies to lay eggs on meat in their box. Hope it works but need to keep them warm. Let you know how I get on!

@tiedye123 I have good luck with the maggots I grow, but that limits play to the summer months.
I can't find a stocking dealer in my area so bait maggots are shipped. I gave up on getting any young enough to be of any use.

@Olddognewtricks Yep...same problem. I tried three batches last time till I bought ones young enough to want to feed. Half are pupated by the time you get the container open!

@tiedye123 Are you still able to get bait maggots? All I can get here are too old to do much.

@Olddognewtricks Thanks. Looks more than it is as the maggots take up most of the space and they exude fluid as they feast so some of the fluid is from them. My little cock bled like hell! Put the maggots off from feasting as they did not have to work hard for food as the blood came to them!
